What's happening in 2013 ...

We've been busy planning our activities and new features for 2013 based on feedback from our members and visitors.  Some of the things you can look forward to include:

  • Seminars: we have six planned for the year including two we are repeating from last year as they were booked out very early and had long waiting lists
  • Thursday Talks: our popular weekly feature continues with many new talks and speakers scheduled for the year
  • Courses: Australian, English, Irish, Scottish, Writing - all aimed to help you with your family history
  • Computer Based Resource Classes: some classes have had variations or additions but the biggest change is that we have swapped most of the classes between Tuesdays and Thursdays to cater for members who could not attend on particular days.  We've also added two Wednesday classes to the program
  • Extra membership benefits: these will be announced in our Ancestor journal so keep an eye out for the details
  • Subscription databases: we will continue to review new databases we can provide free for the benefit of our library users.  The list currently includes: Ancestry, findmypast, Origins network, TNA Documents Online / Discovery, TheGenealogist, British Newspaper Archives and Burke's Peerage
  • GSV databases: these will continue to grow with some exciting additions in progress.  And of course there will be the annual release early in the year of entries from existing indexes that have reached their disclosure date
  • Don't forget our Bookshop, Research Services, Publications, Special Interest Groups, Discussion Circles and Membership Benefits which offer so many options for our members and visitors
The Genealogical Society of Victoria staff and volunteers are looking forward to seeing you in the New Year - and remember that we are only closed on the Public Holidays, so there are plenty of opportunities for your research over the holiday period.
